  • The Grey whale watching season begins in Baja, Mexico and runs until the end of April. You may also see Fin, Minke, Bryde's, Orca, Pilot, and Humpback Whales, as well as Blue Whales the largest mammal on the planet. There are few places in the world where these large mammals can be viewed so easily, and so close up.
  • The beginning of the Humpback Whale migration in Saba, seen right through until March.

February

Pilot Whale, Spain
  • In the Turks and Caicos the Humpback Whale mating and calving rituals begin at the start of February, when thousands of whales migrate from the colder waters of the North Atlantic and head for the Mouchoir Bank and Silver Bank adjacent to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Around 2,500 whales arrive over several weeks for a stay of up to two months.
  • Pilot Whales arrive in Kadavu, Fiji and stay until May.
  • In February and March, whale sightings in Antarctica are usually at their best. Minke are found in the ice floes around the Antarctic Peninsula, while Humpback, Beaked, Fin, Sei, Southern Right, and Blue Whales may be found in the Southern Ocean. Orcas are regularly sighted right up to the Falkland Islands.

March

Orca Whales, Canada
  • March and April see Humpback and Grey Whales migrating past the Cape Verde Islands.
  • The best month for watching Orcas off Peninsula Valdes in Patagonia. They are famous for deliberately beaching themselves in order to catch seal pups resting on the beach.
  • Whale numbers in Antarctica are reaching their peak.

April

Sperm Whale Tail, Azores
  • A great month to be in Dominica for watching nursery groups of female Sperm Whales with their young calves.

May

Pembrokeshire Coast, UK
  • The peak time for seeing Grey Whales off Vancouver Island's west coast as they head north to their summer feeding grounds.
  • Prime whale watching season in the Azores begins now and continues throughout the summer.
  • Late spring/early summer is the best time to witness the stunning birdlife and marine mammals off the coast of Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

June

  • Off the northern Queensland coast of Australia, Minke Whales can be seen from June to August, with the best encounters in June and July. Occasional Humpback Whale sightings occur from July to September. Join a liveaboard or help out with some scientific research then join the team on the Undersea Explorer.
  • Humpback Whales are seen in June in the Galapagos, and from June through November around Ningaloo Reef.
  • Humpback Whales arrive in northern Mozambique.

July

Dolphins, Scotland Two Centre, UK
  • The beautiful Broughton archipelago on Canada's west coast is perhaps the best place in the world to see Orcas. Typically, the 'resident' pods arrive in July and remain in the area until October following the salmon runs.
  • Humpback Whale season in Frederick Sound, South East Alaska reaches its peak. If we are lucky we should be able to witness the spectacular bubble net feeding. Other marine mammals we should see include Orcas, Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, Steller Sea Lions and Sea Otters
  • A wonderful month to visit the resident Bottlenose Dolphin population of the Moray Firth in Scotland. At one special location the dolphins can be seen just metres off the beach!
  • Witness the spectacular acrobatic behaviour of Humpback Whales in New England.
  • Humpback Whales migrate from their feeding grounds in Antarctica along the New Zealand coast, to the Pacific Islands. In the waters around the islands of Tonga they stay from July to September to court, mate and calve. Take a liveaboard in Tonga, a resort package in Tahiti or island hop in Fiji.
  • One of the best months to observe whales and dolphins in the Galapagos Islands.
  • The start of whale watching season off the coast of Gabon (until mid-October).
  • Southern Right Whales start arriving off the Valdes Peninsula in order to mate and calve.
  • About 500 Belugas live year-round in the St. Lawrence River in Canada, but about 3000 Belugas can be found each summer at the estuary of the Churchill River at Hudson's Bay.

August
