Noorderlicht

Sail

The Noorderlicht, originally built in 1910 in Flensburg, Germany, was a three-masted schooner that sailed mostly in Baltic waters. In 1991, the present owners purchased the hull which they completely re-rigged and refitted. Noorderlicht now has a well-balanced two-masted schooner rig and, with its qualified captain and experienced crew, is capable of sailing the seven seas. There is accommodation for 20 passengers in comfortable twin cabins, all of which have upper and lower berths, a cupboard and wash basin. The shared showers (four) and toilets (five) are conveniently located. Instead of portholes, the cabins have frosted glass in the ceiling so that daylight can shine through. While sailing, passengers are actively encouraged to participate in handling the sails, taking the helm, and being on night watch.
