Description
Join the comfortable 21-metre ketch, 'Island Odyssey' to explore Southeast Alaska and learn all about its natural history and Native American heritage. The highlights will be watching humpback whales and bears feeding on salmon, walking with a native guide, deciphering totem poles, and sailing along a spectacular mountain fjord to discover a majestic glacier surrounded by icebergs.
Most of the voyage takes place within the USA's Tongass National Forest. Daily shore excursions include walks in the beautiful forest and hikes to alpine meadows. With an on board naturalist guide you'll comb the shoreline for intertidal creatures and keep a record of the birds, plants and mammals you come across. The itinerary is kept intentionally flexible to take account of individual interests and weather conditions, and take full advantage of wildlife sightings.
